Located at 790 E. State Rd. 434 in historic
Longwood is a delightful Indian restaurant
aptly named Gateway to India. Gateway’s
Chef Kapoor has created a diverse menu in
which curry favorites are just the beginning.
Wildly popular with Longwood’s lunch
crowd for its reasonable and tasty
lunch specials, Gateway to India also offers
an incredible dinner menu. Try the Chicken
Madras, tender chicken cooked in mustard
seed and coconut with a wonderful spicy
South Indian sauce.
Chef Kapoor brings his talents directly
from India, where he mastered the craft
in such renowned venues as the worldfamous
Taj Hotel in Mumbai. Chef Kapoor’s
menu represents the best of the
variety of ingredients that make this cuisine
from the sub-continent so unique.
Seafood lovers must try the Shrimp Tikka
Masala, which features extra large tender
shrimp broiled in the tandoor, a traditional
clay oven, then cooked again in a rich
tomato and onion cream sauce.
Most Indian restaurants offer a few vegetarian
options, but Gateway to India offers
more than just curry vegetables. Try
the Baigan Bharta, which is baked eggplant
minced in a blend of hand-selected authentic
spices, a dish that even the most
ardent carnivore would be delighted to
try. In addition to the extensive vegetarian
menu, the restaurant offers a full vegan
menu, a rare find in Central Florida.
Along with the restaurant’s extensive savory
entree offerings is a wide selection
of tasty beverages, including smoothies,
mango juice and wonderful Indian teas.
Gateway to India also offers an extensive
wine list, by the glass or bottle, and Indian
and domestic beer selections.
Gateway to India is open seven days a
week and offers the famous Grande Buffet
Friday through Sunday, starting at
$9.99. In India, the “Gateway to India” is
a monument in the great city of Mumbai;
today, Gateway to India is a monument
to the fabulous food of India right here
in Central Florida.
